Our Rojo De-Castro is growing nicely. This variety is a Creole variety. A hard-neck style of Garlic....What really does that mean?? This means when it has cured, (and before) the stem of the plant is more rigid. This makes it harder to braid but is great for bunching. The Garlic is long lasting which means it will last you longer - up to 12 months......hahaha yeah right, who has garlic in their cupboard for that long?? I mean, really?? The variety originated from Cordoba, Spain; where the Australian Garlic Industry Association imported it into Australia in 1994. From then, it has undergone many trials and increase plots. In my opinion, it is an underrated variety. I intend on keeping this variety going and increasing my plot size over the next few years. The 2021 season we planted approximately 4500 plants. Hopefully we will be planting around 25,000 to 30,000 plants in 2022. We have found the Garlic to have a Hot, rich, nutty flavour, which is enjoyable both raw and cooked.
